COYOTE SPRINGS GOLF CLUB
RUNDOWN: Just when you thought you have driven far enough into the desert, drive another 25 miles and you will arrive at this Oasis in the desert. Coyote Springs is a fantastic track that sits between Las Vegas and Mesquite. If people have not heard about it then they are missing out on a fantastic course in the middle of the desert! A Jack Nicklaus designed course that will test every facet of your game! Large, undulating fairways are met by deep and expansive bunkers. The greens are a completely separate test as you try and navigate their never ending ups and downs. Your score may not be the greatest, but you will not forget your round out here.
Conditioning here was absolutely fantastic during our most recent visit. We have been here in January and it still holds its own for that time of the year. The staff is super helpful and they take pride in what they have here. You will not find anything within a 50 minute drive from here, so plan on staying the whole day and take advantage of their re-round option. You will not regret spending a day out here and I would venture to guess that you will try and plan a return trip to this fantastic course!

REVIEW AND HIGHLIGHTS
Hole 2 "Deuces Wild" Par 5 - 575 Yards
Hopefully the first hole took out the kinks in your golf game already, because you will need everything working on this long par 5. There is a generous landing area, like you will find on most holes out here, off the tee. Playing from the back tees will make this a three shot par 5. Large waste areas line both sides of the hole, which is a common occurrence out here as well. Jack Nicklaus did a great job of strategically placing the fairway bunkers. While you have large landing areas, you will have to navigate the bunkers to have solid second shots. When hitting into this green, keep it left to avoid the water and you definitely won't fare well on a low shot, so keep it up. The green is pretty shallow but quite wide and can be receptive to your higher irons. This hole sets up well for a birdie with some solid shots, but can quickly bite you if you miss your spots!
Hole 3 "The Flop" Par 3 - 228 Yards
Well, hopefully you birdied number two because this long par 3 is one of the tougher par 3's on the course. Birdie is not what will come to your mind on this tee as you look at the long forced carry over water and a well protected green. The bunkers are deep and uninviting and will cause multiple problems if you find them. A draw from the righties and a fade from the lefties is the best shot on this hole. It will give you a chance to play away from some of the trouble. Make sure you execute it though or you may walk away with a double bogey on this one.
Hole 9 "Splash The Pot" Par 4 - 439 Yards
The way the 9th and 18th holes come together here is nothing short of fantastic! Nine plays fairly tough even though there is a large fairway to hit. It's all about the approach shot here as short and long can be a death trap. The hills are steep off the green and will assist the ball towards the water if you hit them. The outward nine here is no joke and nine will not be any easier on you if you are struggling.
Hole 11 "YO!" Par 5 - 564 Yards
The bunkering on this hole can be brutal! If you can smack the ball then keep it on the right side over the bunkers or you can quickly run out of room on the left. Hitting into the trap can guarantee it will take you three to get on. Laying up on the right hand side will be your easiest shot away from the trouble. However, the shot in from the right will test you since you will have to go over the deep bunkers that guard the green. There is a generous landing area on the left that allows a better approach shot. Overall, Coyote Springs is not going to give up any strokes on the par 5's and this is no exception.
Hole 13 "Lucky 13" Par 4 - 424 Yards
I have to include the 13th hole, "Lucky 13" because that is also my lucky number! It may go as most people's unlucky number, but the roulette wheel has treated pretty well when betting 13! I love the look of this hole from the tee, however that doesn't mean it looks easy by any means. There is a deep fairway bunker smack dab in the middle of the fairway. Anything in there will require a short out with no chance of going for the green. Carry that bunker off the tee and you will hit a speed slot and are in for one of your longer tee balls of the day! This green can play tough as well. Clear the bunker fronting the green and go for your two putt par here. Lucky for sure; easy, not a chance!
Hole 14 "Shooter" Par 4 - 450 Yards
Picture above, the 14th hole runs along the right side. I wish I had a tee box shot of this hole, if I find it then I will update this. The view from the box leads over a large sand hill filled with desert vegetation. It is a completely blind shot over the hill to the large fairway beyond. There is a bailout area to the right but you will need to make sure not to carry into the fairway bunkers. Our first round on the course led us both to poor tee shots to the right and made this very difficult. However, our second time around we both made it a point to crush it over the hill. With us both swinging away we ended up about 320 yards down the middle of the fairway! Sitting not more than a yard apart, we both proceeded to hit the green and two putt to par. This green is no joke and provides some pretty tough slopes to navigate. In the video we were lucky enough to pick up a coyote wandering its way around the 14th green.
Hole 17 "Press It Up" Par 3 - 170 Yards
This is my favorite par 3 on the course. The way it sits just seems to suit my eye and my shot shape. You have to chunk the ball or pull it well left to hit the water, so your biggest obstacle is are the bunkers. The large green looks to be very inviting, but can leave some very long putts to deal with. There is a large ridge that separates the green and will terrorize you if you are on the wrong side of it. This is a very solid par 3 that will leave you wishing you had another 18 holes and not just one left.
