DORMIE CLUB
RUNDOWN: Dormie Club was acquired by The Dormie Network in 2017. Already labeled, Dormie Club, it fit into the network perfectly! The course is located near Pinehurst NC, which if you have any understanding of the golf world, you know there are some amazing courses in this area! The other courses may call your name, but we can guarantee the Dormie Club will stand out as one of the best.
With Coore and Crenshaw as architects you will enjoy a very playable course that is set up for all skill levels. When we say that, it doesn't mean it will be easy. You will have to play all kinds of different shots out here and will be tested at every level. The conditions are firm and fast and there is no rough on the course. That will help players of all skill levels, but the tight lies will force you to think about every shot, especially those around the greens. The greens don't all look like they have much movement, but there are subtle breaks all around this property.
This is a Dormie Network property and with that comes the absolute best in amenities, food and service! They just completed a complete rebuild of the clubhouse last year and it is IMPRESSIVE! We will add some photos at the end showing the clubhouse. The cottages are amazing and provide a great place to sit back and relax while not playing golf. Driving from your room, to the clubhouse, to the golf course in a golf cart is impossible to beat! Dormie Club holds its own among the greats in the area and we can guarantee you will not regret spending a day or two on property.

REVIEW AND HIGHLIGHTS
Hole 3 Par 4 - 312 Yards
|
|
The 3rd hole is a drivable par 4 for some, but a birdie opportunity for all. Off the tee you will have a choice to layup short of the large bunker on the right, or pull out the big dawg and try and crush one to the putting surface. The ball was not carrying much for us on this trip and we ended up in the bunker multiple times. The issue with our layup attempts was we tended to pull them left and make poor contact and ended up in the left bunker. The hole really should not play that difficult, but the green will make up for that. You will want to make sure you avoid the false front and get your ball on the proper level of this multi tiered green. Our scores ranged from good to real, real bad on this hole. However, step up, stripe the tee ball and give yourself a good look at birdie.
Hole 4 Par 4 - 434 Yards
We had a good look at this hole for our entire trip as our cottage was located to the left of this hole. We also tended to play it fairly often while we were cruising around taking video of the course. The hole plays right to left and is a fairly inviting tee shot, unless you play a large fade or in other words, a slice. If you can smash a drive that moves right to left then there is a great chance for you to catch the speed slot down the left side of the fairway. The approach to this green is fairly inviting as the green is quite large. It all moves left to right, so don't hesitate to aim a little left of the flag on the approach. We had that back left hole position a lot and it was a little difficult to hit it close. But, if you can avoid the deep bunker on the right, you are doing yourself a favor.
Hole 5 Par 4 - 430 Yards
From the back tees this par four plays fairly tough. The angle of it screams at you to play something right to left. The left to right flight will only extend the hole and bring the hazard into play. If you happen to carry the drive far enough and hit the left side of the fairway then you can catch another speed slot and place yourself in a great position to hit the green. We played up a tee and it provided us with another drivable par 4. We both came very close to getting on the putting surface multiple times and both ended with a few birdies. The lone eagle of the trip came on this hole as me and Kevin both hit our drives to about 2 feet short of the putting surface. Kevin played first up the hill on the right and walked away with birdie. I had the upper hand as I was able to watch his putt and ended up knocking it in for a solid 2 here.
Hole 12 Par 3 - 113 Yards
Here is a fun video of the 12th hole. This short par 3 almost yielded my first hole in one since I was 17 years old. That puts it about 19 years ago for me! I played a 50 degree wedge just past the pin and used the slope to bring it back to the hole. I had to have missed the left side by inches and ended up about a foot and a half away from the hole.
This video doesn't show that shot, but it's a couple shots we hit into it on one of our last days on property. A wedge into this green provides an opportunity at a birdie, but we can only imagine some of the pin locations are not as favorable as this one is. The pin locations will determine the ease at which you get through this little par 3. In the video I play just a little long of the slope, but it ends up a decent shot in. Then Kevin blades the next shot about 40 yards deep and you can see the ball scream by the pin. He redeem's himself on the next shot by spinning one back about 30 ft off the hill and towards the pin. This is one of those short par 3's that just bring out a ton of enjoyment in the game.

The 14th plays as a drivable par 4 that requires a solid shot to take advantage of that! If you want any chance of hitting the putting surface then the answer is to hit the left side of the fairway. A right to left shot shape will help to hold against the hill that forces all shots to the right side. Even if you happen to get to the green off the tee, if the ball is carrying some speed, you can fall off the right side and end up 15 to 20 yards from the putting surface in no time! The green falls away severely and will force you to play a great shot up to the green. The bunker also guards the putting surface and that is where I ended up in the video above. The shot out worked well for me and yielded a fairly easy birdie putt as well. While this hole plays short, it has enough going on that it is no walk in the park.
Hole 16 Par 3 - 198 Yards
The par 3 16th hole is just a solid par 3! It can play out over 200 yards if the pin is back and is a true test. Playing downhill a little from tee to green will help players overall. The green is fairly large but is very well protected with bunkers all around. There are not many options for a bailout, so go ahead and pull the right club and swing confident at this one. Anywhere on the putting surface will give you a straightforward putt at birdie. There are some ridges through the green that will cause some tougher putts, but the front portion of the green is pretty easy to read.
Hole 18 Par 4 - 420 Yards

The 18th hole is a solid offering to end your round here. The smart player will layup short of the waste area that crosses the fairway and give themself a great shot in to this large green. The other guy who just wants to swing hard can smash a drive over the waste area if they want. The fairway is much narrower past the waste area, but an easy wedge can be enticing to most players. You get to see some of the fantastic cottages that are on the property to your right as you play the hole. Being right next to the course where you can go out and enjoy a fire if you would like, is a great perk to being here at the Dormie Club. The back drop off the 18th green is the amazing new clubhouse that opened in 2021. After finishing your round head on in for a drink and some amazing food! Even though the golf course shines here, some time in the clubhouse might sit in a close second of things to do while on property.
