GALENA RIDGE
RUNDOWN: Man am I glad that we stumbled across this little gem! We left Pocatello Idaho on our way to Coeur d'Alene for a 5 day golfing trip that would extend from CDA to Seattle and down to Walla Walla Washington. We left early in the morning and had plenty of time to find a course to play in the area before our appointment with Circling Raven Golf Club. I had stumbled on this course through an Instagram profile that I follow but never really paid it much thought. With plenty of time we decided to stop in Kellogg Idaho for a 9 hole round here. One of the best decisions we would make on this trip!
For a 9 hole course, they really went above and beyond here! The routing through the mountains provides gorgeous views and dramatic elevation changes! The conditioning was superb for a mountain course at the middle of May and I would bet it only gets better from there. This course can hold its own with most public offerings in the CDA area. Galena Ridge can just be described as a fun experience that will help you see why you enjoy playing this great game! You can't go wrong when one of the local rules is, "Take relief if ball lands in Elk or Moose tracks." Do yourself a favor and stop by this place next time, it will be worth your time!

REVIEW AND HIGHLIGHTS
Hole 2 Par 3 - 198 Yards
Hole 2 is a prime example of the drastic elevation changes you will experience throughout the course. The backdrop of mountains and never ending pine trees help to really frame this hole. Well below the tee box sits a decent sized green that is guarded on the front and left side by deep bunkers. It's very easy to get distracted by the views and pull your head up on the swing, only to watch the ball drift into trouble. If you can keep from looking at the scenery until your swing is complete, then your focus needs to be keeping the ball right. Anything right will feed towards the middle of the putting surface. You will be met by some large ridges in this green that will demand your attention. Our friend, Tyler Leatham, who joined on this trip, hit probably the best shot of the entire trip right here on our second hole. Floating the ball out to the right side of the green, the hill kicked him right down to about 5 feet from the pin. It was an awesome sight to watch it float through the air and end up so close for birdie!
Hole 4 Par 4 - 487 Yards
While the tee box doesn't provide the most stunning views of this hole, the green is a different story! From the tee you will be hitting slightly uphill to a fairway protected by bunkers on both sides. The bunkers are deep enough to keep you from hitting on in two, so make sure you keep this one straight. The hole runs along a ridge the entire way. Hitting the green is no easy task as there are bunkers right and the green falls away on all sides. Make sure you have your distance dialed in so you can avoid all trouble. The green is relatively flat and provides a good opportunity to drain a putt.
Hole 6 Par 4 - 522 Yards
I really wish we would have had time to play 18 holes on this course, just so I could play this hole again! The view is endless and the elevation drop on the tee will make you feel like you sent your golf ball into orbit! Dropping way down the hill you will find an open fairway that really starts to pinch down as you near the green. Big hitters can still make this 522 yard par 4 a fairly easy hole. Watch out though, you can also find yourself in the ravine on the left side that will not provide any type of lie. A wedge shot or short iron is what will be needed into this green, so chances of scoring well are drastically increased. Another putting surface that is relatively flat will provide a good chance at birdie as long as you found the fairway on your drive. This hole alone will draw me back to this course in the future!
