JACKSON HOLE GOLF AND TENNIS CLUB
RUNDOWN: Through our Instagram page, @offthedeckgolf, we ran into Matt Cardis (@golfinyourstate). His Instagram page was full of amazing pictures from around the country. I noticed he had pictures from the Jackson Hole area and so I reached out to him. From the get go he was very excited to talk about the courses he plays in the Jackson Hole area. He talked about his travels to play courses around the country and shared some of his story with me. You really should check him out and learn about what he is doing! Matt invited us to join him for a round of golf at his club and also provided us the opportunity to fly the drone around the course. We could not pass on the opportunity and quickly set up a date and time to head to Jackson Hole! Honestly, this was probably our most enjoyable experience since we have started up our Instagram account and course review site. Matt was a wealth of knowledge on everything from the golf course to how to increase our following on Instagram. Along the way of getting to know him, we were treated to a solid round of golf!
We kicked off our day in Jackson Hole with a quick stop at D.O.G, a favorite local restaurant. One giant, delicious, philly sandwich was just what we needed to start the afternoon off right! A short drive from there and we were at JHGTC. The course provides spectacular views of the Grand Tetons! These mountains are one of the major reasons people choose to visit the area. They provide solid opportunities for camping, hiking and photography. No need to be in a hurry to get to Yellowstone National Park, as you will want to take some time and enjoy Jackson Hole. It happened to be a little smokey from wildfires all over the western United States, but luckily the day were arrived was better than the past two weeks! Throughout our time on the course we looked for opportunities where we could showcase the views around us. We could have spent all day looking at the views from the course, as almost every hole is picturesque. The back nine provides your best views of the Tetons as well. However, when all is said and done, this golf course is just as enjoyable as the views around it!

REVIEW AND HIGHLIGHTS
Hole 4 "Paintbrush" Par 4 - 433 Yards
Once you finish this hole and look back at what you just played, you will truly start to appreciate where you are playing golf! While this hole doesn't provide a view of the Tetons during play, make sure to take a minute to marvel at the view back to the tee box. The smoke did not provide us great photographs of the mountains, but in person it could still be appreciated. Off the box you will want to play for about 275 yards into the fairway. Going too far will place you in the creek that runs through the fairway. The approach shot is intimidating! You contend with large bunkers on the right side and front left of this shallow green. I was left with a longer iron shot around one of the large trees in view of my approach. Pulling it left put me in a tough position for a chip shot as there is a decent size ridge that runs from front to back on the middle of the green. With the quick rolling putting surfaces, my chip rolled well past and I walked away with a bogey. However, the view back to the tee helped ease the pain a little.
Hole 6 "Cutthroat" Par 3 - 220 Yards
You will gather from my review that I was thoroughly impressed by the par 3's on this course! I do not have a picture of the par 3 3rd hole as me and Kevin were just enjoying the round of golf and forgot to pull out the camera. I birdied that hole with a long putt! I played the par 3's at 1 under par and really enjoyed their overall layout. The par 3 6th hole was a solid one shotter that required a mid iron from the whites. Focus on the putting surface and not the Teton's in the background for your best chance at a birdie! The green is well protected by large bunkers along the sides and back. The green is fairly deep and provides a lot of room for a shot. It slopes from back to front with a shelf on the back of the green. Another solid shot into this hole provided me a par here.
Hole 13 "Teton Trace" Par 3 - 169 Yards
Hole 13 will not blow you away with difficulty, but it will capture your attention as one of the best looking holes on the course! Mountains frame the horizon in front and a large pond leads up to this larger green. Confidence was running pretty high as we were playing from the whites, providing me just a PW into the green. I kept my attention away from the hazard and the beauties around and placed my shot about 15 ft from the pin! The green slopes from back to front and is pretty slippery. I was above the hole which proved to take away my confidence a tad bit! The greens on the whole course were rolling out and were very quick. No different here and I eased up a little too much causing me to walk away with another par.
Hole 15 "St. Johns" Par 4 - 470 Yards
Upon playing this hole, I didn't plan on featuring it in the review for this course. It's a pretty straightforward par 4 with no big issues presented throughout it. You must avoid the bunkers that line the fairways with your drive. This will leave you a short iron into this pretty tame green. We played this hole a little after 4:00 p.m and the sun was high in the sky. It wasn't until our evening walkthrough where we were taking pictures and flying the drone, that this hole really jumped out to me. Hitting the box at perfect light provided us a great photo opportunity with Matt. It brought a whole new outlook to my mind in regards to this hole. The hole, in a different light, became one of my favorites on the course. The difficulty of this hole is not what did it for me, it was the setting that made it awesome! Maybe, going forward, I'll sit back and appreciate the holes that may not jump out in the same way as others. I may enjoy quite a few more rounds of golf if I can do that!
Hole 16 - "Grand View" Par 3 - 184 Yards
They definitely got the name correct on this hole! Standing on the tee box, how can you not be in awe of the Grand Tetons in front of you!? Number 16 will provide you with the best view of the mountains on the whole course. Snap a couple photos, do about 5 flyovers with a drone and then don't forget to swing a club! Looking at the hole itself, it is easy to see that it will play difficult. Guarded by bunkers around basically the whole green, you will be forced to carry the putting surface to avoid trouble. The large bunkers will gather up many shots and the front one swallowed up mine. The putting surface is large, so you have a great chance of sticking this green. I was able to play my sand shot to about 5 ft and walk away with a sand save on the day. In my opinion, this hole will have you wishing you were not almost done with your round.
Hole 17 "Sleeping Indian" Par 4 - 437 Yards
The hole is named for the mountain outside of Jackson that looks like an Indian Chief lying down. Really, this golf course sports the best mountain views I have ever experienced in a round of golf. I'm sure there are other courses outside of Jackson that have wonderful mountain views, but these are hard to beat! The hole is a slight dog leg left with a large bunker on the left side of the fairway. The bunker sits right in the landing zone and will make you think twice before just ripping a driver. It can be carried, but for shorter hitters, play to the right side of the fairway or pull out something other than driver. Your approach shot is into a green that slopes from back to front. Also, the green has a large shelf on the back that isn't visible from the fairway. As pictured above, the best view comes from the right side of the green and towards the mountains. Walking away with birdie on this hole is very do able, but par and this view will be just fine!
