SNAKE RIVER SPORTING CLUB
Rundown: Snake River Sporting Club embodies everything that Jackson Hole Wyoming is about! The club will make you feel like you have come to the remote and rugged Old West. The rugged, yet pristine conditions of this layout fit right in with the Snake River and the surrounding mountains! Golf Digest has SRSC listed as the number one course in Wyoming and it is widely considered to be Tom Weiskopf’s greatest American design.
You will need to come prepared to execute every shot in front of you. This is not set up as a grip it and rip it type layout. You will be penalized if you are off target here and will quickly see your scores skyrocket! The views all around you will try and take your focus, but you will need to focus on each shot to score well on this tough but fair design.

REVIEW AND HIGHLIGHTS
Hole 2 Par 4 - 322 Yards
Welcome to one of my favorite holes on the entire property! I love a great drive able par 4 that actually allows you the opportunity to get on in one. This hole definitely is not easy, but it does afford you the chance at an early putt for eagle. The green sits below some 50 feet from the tee box and is the largest and most undulated on the course. The tee box blocks most of your view of the fairway but there is actually quite a bit of room to the left side. A tee shot right will miss the friendly bounce towards the green but will offer a solid approach shot in. The left middle of the fairway will lead your ball to the putting surface. Just getting on the green is half the battle here. If you do not find the right tier on this green then it can spell disaster! You will be left with a roller coaster putt that can quickly lead to another. I imagine your group could easily see anything from an eagle to a double bogey here pretty easily.
Hole 3 Par 4 - 475 Yards
You will go from a scoring opportunity on the last hole to survival of the fittest on this one! The back tee boxes sit well within the trees and show you just how narrow this hole plays. Anything pulled left has a great chance of hitting one of the large pines and bouncing out of bounds. Anything right will surely catch the long grass or the small creek that runs the length of the hole. No bunkers are found on this hole but if you don’t find the short grass, that will not matter. Luckily the approach into this green is not as intimidating. The green is long but is relatively tame and allows for a decent two putt opportunity.
Hole 4 Par 3 - 150 Yards
You will run into some absolutely fantastic par 3’s here at SRSC, but none as short as this one. It tips out at 150 yards but you can play it all the way down to 80 yards. That will feel like a chip shot compared to some of the others you will face. However, I love how this hole sits back in the forrest and just off the mountainside. The setting for this short hole is stunning and offers one of the more secluded feelings on the course. You will need to pay attention to the pin position here and make sure you avoid the deep bunker in front of the green. The green falls off on almost all sides of the putting surface, so do not take this short hole for granted!

Hole 7 Par 5 - 592 Yards
I had the opportunity to play here nearly 5 years ago and this hole is one that stuck out in my mind. The back tees are set well within the forrest. When you reach the fairway the hole opens up some, only to be closed off again as the trees pinch down 3/4 of the way through. Visually, with the fairway opening and closing on you, it just stuck out in my mind. There is loads of trouble from tee to green here. The large fairway bunker on the right will cause many shots to be pulled left and into the long grass. The best shot is to hug the tree line and smoke a drive over the bunker if possible. This will give you the ability to easily clear the sand that sits at the narrowest part of the green and it will give you your best angle for approach. The putting surface is guarded by large bunkers on the right and it falls away from you on the left. You will be required to play the right shot all the way down this long par 5 to score well.
Hole 8 Par 4 - 447 Yards
This is not the hole you should pull driver out on, but because of the length you will wish you could! The fairway on this long par 4 pinches right down to almost nothing. This will most likely require you to go off the tee with a fairway wood or low iron. Take your medicine here and make sure you land in the short grass for any hope of hitting the putting surface. The longer approach shot will have to clear multiple bunkers and avoid going left and long. You do have a small bailout area on the front and right sides of the green but you will also be contending with the sand. This relatively small green will welcome a solid strike as it slopes from back to front. This is one of the toughest holes out here and will require you to make the smart play to score well.
Hole 12 Par 3 - 233 Yards
Everything about this hole embodies what this place is about. From the box you see the rugged, yet pristine conditioning found at this course. The marsh land, the bridge and the rough bunkering all adds to the aesthetic of this amazing track! While this is one of my favorite par 3’s, I have never seemed to score well here. The shot will be required to carry the marsh and keep from fading to the left or right. As you move left or right you will run into deep bunkers that will definitely test your sand game. I feel like every time I have played here I have pushed my shot right and into the bunker, or worse, the water. The green is large and will welcome many shot shapes and different lofts. Par is do able here, but it will be one you have to work for.
Hole 13 Par 4 - 455 Yards
The course doesn’t get any easier after the long par 3. Walking off the back of green on twelve will put you on the back tee here. Large trees frame the left and right side of the boxes and make you think twice about ripping your driver any which way. The landing area is fairly wide and will only run into trouble for really long hitters. There is a ditch that runs across the fairway that you will have to be mindful of. The hole dog legs to the right and a smooth fade is a solid play here. The green slopes hard from back to front and right to left in some areas. Anything long or right will certainly make it difficult to walk away with a decent score. Left is the miss here as it will afford you a relatively easy chip, especially when compared to the right side.
Hole 15 Par 3 - 205 Yards
I love standing on this tee box and looking at the views around you! You have the large mountains surrounding the course and from here a beautiful view of the Snake River flowing by. The green is very intriguing as it is raised above the marshland and has a sheer grass face leading up to it on the left. The face of the green on the left is very abrupt and will not be a pretty site to play your second from. However, looking at it from the tee is sure nice. There is a large tree on the right that you will not want to mess with, but otherwise the green is sitting right in front of you. It doesn’t play as difficult as twelve but it still requires solid accuracy to avoid the danger around it.
Hopefully there is no one playing right behind you because you will want to stop near the green for a few minutes. Step off the cart path and there are a few chairs lined up near the waters edge. Take a minute and really take in the beauty of the Snake River and surrounding area. You will not find many places more peaceful on a golf course!
