THE LEDGES GOLF CLUB
RUNDOWN: This course came onto our radar at the end of 2020. We were in St. George working with a couple of courses and had an extra day where we were looking for another course to visit. We saw some of the photos of The Ledges online and figured we should definitely try and make something happen. We could not link up on that visit but the staff was very open to us returning.
The course is located in The Ledges of St. George community. There are multiple types of housing options and it sits just outside of St. George itself. Upon arrival you will notice the massive clubhouse with plenty of room to entertain a large gathering. There is a restaurant that we didn't try, but I am sure it is a solid offering. They have a solid practice area and with how busy the course was, many people must get here on a daily basis. However, the course was run very well and our round progressed at a decent pace.
The front nine will give you a chance to just enjoy the round of golf. Nothing will jump out to you on the front but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy yourself out there. Now is the time to try and score before you move onto the back nine. The back nine has the more impressive views holes on the course. Hole 14, while very straightforward, will provide a solid view into the red rock canyon sitting just beyond the course. Hole 15 has to be one of the best risk/reward drivable 4's you will have the chance to play. The course overall is very playable and fits great with the terrain and the housing community it sits in. It's a round of golf you are bound to enjoy.

REVIEW AND HIGHLIGHTS
Hole 6 Par 4 - 430 Yards
Number 6 won't blow you away with difficulty, we just liked how it sat against the sagebrush and played up the hill. It also didn't hurt, that after one of my worst drives of the trip, I smoked a solid 4 iron out of the fairway bunker and made it out with a par. If you saw the drive you would be impressed haha. Anyways, just a solid drive up the hill should leave you with a scoring iron in hand. With the large putting surface you have a great chance of hitting a green in reg and walking away with a birdie. Many of the holes on the front can be confidence boosters or they will end up as holes you will wonder how the crap you could possibly have screwed up.
Hole 8 Par 4 - 372 Yards
The 8th hole can play fairly short, depending on the tee you choose to play from. If you play one or two tee boxes up then you can have a legit shot at driving the green. You will have to flirt with the sagebrush along the side and will need to avoid the bunkers surrounding the green. You do not have much room for error when trying to get on in one. To me that's the point of a drivable par 4, it needs to be test, but a well struck drive can pay off huge for you in the end! If you don't go for the putting surface then you should have a wedge into this green. Use this as another opportunity to take one back from the course as you work to the more difficult back nine.
Hole 11 Par 5 - 531 Yards
No matter which box you decide to tee it up from, this hole will play much longer than the yardage! The climb from tee to green will test your golfing abilities. Tee it high and let it fly here for even the slightest chance of making it to the green in two and having a chance at eagle. There is a large bunker in the fairway that tends to be in the landing area of most people. Also, the entire right side of the hole is lined with sagebrush that will quickly gobble up an errant shot. Let's say you hit the fairway, get ready to pound your second shot as well. It will require a solid shot up the hill to a raised green the has a very narrow entrance if you are running anything up there. Once on the surface the slope of the green can really make you think about your line. All in all this hole is playable, but it will make you execute each shot with precision. Overall it's one of the best 5's on the course!
Hole 12 Par 3 - 169 Yards
This one shotter has the best views of any of the others on the course. The people that have homes next to it should count themselves lucky to enjoy the red rock hills near them. The hole is pretty straightforward but the green can be what hurts you on this short par 3. We played with the pin up on the top tier and witnessed one of the better shots into a par 3 we have seen this year. Our playing partner stuffed a wedge to about 1 foot and walked away with a tap in birdie here. We didn't fare so well but still walked away with pars. The green will dictate what happens here though as the back right side falls into a bowl and would be rough to play out of. Also, if the pin is down there and you get stuck up top, good luck stopping your putt near the hole. It could provide for some very entertaining shots in though. Overall this is our favorite par 3 out here.
Hole 13 Par 4 - 419 Yards
Where the par 5 11th hole can play significantly longer than it's yardage, the par 4 13th can be cut down with a solid drive. The landing area of a good drive will start to fall towards the green surface below. The real drop in distance will be the second shot to the green. It plays well downhill but the green itself is a real challenge! The green is 3 tiered and everything runs away from you. The hill before the green will propel you forward and so will the rest of the green at that. If you are playing to carry your shot to the green you will need to spin it in order to keep yourself where you want to be. A putt from the upper tier to the middle tier is next to impossible to get near the hole. None of us went beyond the flag stick on the fly so we didn't get to attempt the uphill putt, but we imagine that you will need to give it a good wrap to get up the hill. This green could be the thing of nightmares for many people, so good luck out there!
Hole 14 Par 4 - 389 Yards
This is one of the more straightforward golf hole you will see out here on the back nine. It's not overly long or difficult, but the views behind this hole make it. You can pull out driver, but you risk running through the fairway into some waste area. You can also layup off the tee to a wide landing area that provides a short iron or wedge into this fairly narrow green. The green does have a false front, so make sure to cover the front of the green on your approach. Birdie is very do-able on this hole and will only enhance the view from beyond the green.
Hole 15 Par 4 - 320 Yards
Welcome to the most entertaining hole on the course! I think that can usually be said of any drivable par 4's that you get the chance to play. The excitement of having a chance to get on the green in one shot will outweigh most people's ability to actually execute the shot haha. There is a fairly large landing area if you decide you just can't quite reach the green. But for the majority of players that come here, not in a tournament, let the the big dog eat and smack one on the putting surface! We had perfect conditions the entire day and that led to a favorable opportunity to reach the green. We all gave it a run and two out of the three of us playing made it to the last section, containing the green. I made it pin high on the fringe of the green and Kevin actually placed it pin high on the right middle of the putting surface. The pin was tucked on the left side which is down a large hill in the middle of the green. I chipped mine about 1 foot short of the hill and stayed on top. That resulted in a ho hum par. Kevin cozied his putt to a couple inches down the hill and walked away with the sole birdie on the hole. He was the only one that took advantage of the risk but this hole was a blast! Take a rip at it and see what you come away with.
